MAYA BALTAZAR HERRERA, FASPMaya Herrera is managing director of Solutions Incorporated. Her particular fields of expertise are actuarial services, employee benefits and compensation review and design, health care finance, strategic measuring, enterprise-wide risk management, and organization development.
Maya is also currently an Associate Professor at the Asian Institute of Management. She teaches finance, risk management, corporate valuation, and human resources management. She is program director of the Institute’s Enterprise Wide Risk Management; Managing and Measuring Corporate Performance; Strategic Finance; and Finance for Senior Executives Programs. Ms. Herrera has held the posts of Chief Financial Officer of AIM and Treasurer of the AIM Scientific Research Foundation, the Institute’s funding arm.
She has held various management and professional posts including Chief Financial Officer and Actuary of the local office of a large multinational life insurance company; Practice Leader of the health care, group and risk management practices of the local office of a multinational consulting firm; President and General Manager of one of the top ten pre-need education and pension companies in the Philippines; and President and General Manager of one of the largest direct selling operations in the Philippines.
Maya is a fellow and past president of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines.
Ms. Herrera graduated with a bachelor's a degree in mathematics, cum laude from the University of the Philippines. She holds a master's degree in actuarial mathematics from the University of Michigan and is currently working on her PhD in Organization Development. She is a member of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, the International Actuarial Association and the Philippine Academy of Management.

Ms. La Chica is a director and consultant for employee benefits of Solutions Incorporated.
Ms. La Chica has been in the benefits consulting field since the early eighties. Her particular fields of expertise are employee benefits management, managed care and personal casualty insurance. She has handled projects on strategic benefit planning, benefit review and design, funding advice, benefit communication, placement of insured programs, establishment and review of self-insured programs and third party administered plans, and managed care review.
She worked with one of the largest insurance brokers in the country for more than ten years. During this time, she provided underwriting, claims and other technical services for the Company's Casualty, Employee Benefits and Surety business. She was subsequently assigned to develop and manage the Company's newly established independent employee benefits division. In this capacity, she was responsible for designing, implementing and managing employee benefit programs for a large number of Companies.
While in this firm, she underwent further training on Employee Benefits with a large consulting firm in New York, USA. Specifically, her training was on Managed Care, including the tools that Managed Care Providers use for cost control and quality assurance; self-insuring health care plans; and corporate healthcare benefits management.
Prior to joining this firm, Ms. La Chica worked as an economist at the National Economic and Development Authority. Ms. La Chica was a member of the faculty of the Insurance Institute for the Asia and the Pacific. She was the lecturer for medical benefits insurance at the UNCTAD Insurance Seminar for Asia. She was guest presenter at two annual conventions of the AHMOPI (Association of HMO’s in the Philippines) on “Criteria in Selecting an HMO” and “Quality Cost Effective Care”.
While in Solutions, she has handled projects that have involved health care plan design and health care plan financing options, including self-insured options with network access through HMO’s. She has also assisted employers in selecting health care providers, starting with an assessment of the criteria in selecting a provider for a particular company, up to the bidding process and recommendation for final selection.
For companies that have opted to use Solutions’ broking services, her role has extended to overall Account Management, including supervision of a team that handles the plan launch, plan communication, day-to-day liaising with the HR Department of the employer, the provider and the employees of the Company. Her team also provides regular utilization reports, claims analysis, service satisfaction surveys, and renewal negotiation.

Ms. Bañaga is director and treasurer of Solutions, Incorporated. Her field of expertise is employee benefits consulting with a particular emphasis on managed care.
Ms. Bañaga has worked in the insurance and health care fields for more than fifteen years.
She worked with the claims department of a large non-life insurance firm specializing in health care for five years. She subsequently joined a large multinational life insurance firm in order to set up their health insurance administration unit. She has headed the claims department of one of the largest health maintenance organization in the country. Prior to joining Solutions, she was the officer in charge of all personal accident insurance of a multinational non-life insurance company. In the last two positions, she was responsible for the design and implementation of employee benefit programs for several large corporations.
Since joining Solutions Incorporated, Ms. Banaga has worked with USAID in auditing the operation of a local government health care plan. She has also worked on several third party administration programs. While in Solutions, she has handled projects that have involved health care plan design, including self-insured options with network access through HMO’s. She has also assisted employers in selecting health care providers, starting with an assessment of the criteria in selecting a provider for a particular company, up to the bidding process and recommendation for final selection.

Ms. Alcasid is Director and Senior Consultant of Solutions Incorporated. Her area of expertise is asset risk management.
Ms. Alcasid has over fifteen years of experience in the fields of risk management and non-life insurance placement. She has particular expertise in property and casualty insurance particularly in the area of Marine Cargo, Hull and Aviation Insurance.
She provided a risk management study for the country’s container/port operator. She has also worked on benefit communication projects such as the design and development of human resources policy manuals. She has provided assistance in the review of the current loan programs of several multinational companies.
Before joining Solutions, she was Senior Manager for sales for one of the largest insurance brokers in the country. In that position, she had over-all servicing responsibility for all non-life accounts. She has established and maintained non-life insurance programs for companies in various industries such as air and sea transport, mining, service and manufacturing firms.
Ms. Alcasid has successfully passed the Professional Designation Courses for Associateship designation offered by the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific.
Ms. Alcasid graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines.
